Welcome to Blue Ridge Tire Center!
We are a local family based business and our friendly staff is here to help.
In a mobile society everyone has to have tires.
Blue Ridge Tire Center moved to Salem, bringing with it a full-service tire business ready to serve the greater Roanoke Valley.
Location is an important criterion for any business and the move to Salem proved to be a sound one, said owner Andy Stegall. He said the business is more
centrally located to handle its large 10-county service
area and is much easier for customers to find and access.
Business hours are 7:30 AM - 5:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
Space was getting tight and was inconveniently laid out at the old location. That makes the roughly 100,000 square feet at 1209 S. Colorado St., near the old Rowe Furniture factory, a welcome change. Now the business has a more efficient, one-level floor plan with dock-height loading, which is a major convenience for customers and employees.
Stegall said he has been greatly impressed with the ease of the move to Salem. "The City of Salem, and especially Melinda Payne in the Economic Development Department, has been extremely cooperative in helping us move to our new location. They even rezoned the property to help facilitate the move, and being so close to Interstate 81 has really been good for us."
Before the move, the business already had a substantial number of clients in the Salem/Blacksburg area and farther out to Wise, Norton and the coalfields.
The business was started off U.S. 460 in Blue Ridge in 1989 by Don Stegall, father of Andy. The elder Stegall had worked for two giants in the industry, B.F. Goodrich and Edwards-Warren. Andy came to work for his dad right out of high school and began to absorb a lifetime of knowledge about the industry from his father.
The business grew and in 1994 moved to Williamson Road in Roanoke. In 2004, Don retired, and Andy purchased the business. The company has 15 employees and is still hiring. Its business is 75 percent commercial and 25 percent retail.
Blue Ridge Tire Center general manager Jim McCraney, a 34-year veteran of the industry, said customers can buy tires for any kind of vehicle. The business has its own mechanic and is approved to do state inspection. It offers full basic car and light truck alignment and brake service, as well as 24-hour road service for all vehicles.
For businesses which operates heavy construction equipment, Blue Ridge Tire Center can travel to industrial sites such as quarries or strip mining locations to sell and service massive, off-road tires, which can cost up to $25,000 each.
